C'est tout en anglais, mais ça vous l'aurez remarquer, et ça laisse presager de bons trucs...

I've been wanting to do this for a long time. I thumbed through my memory banks and scanned through all 69 pages of the Maiden chat, and came up with the most frequently asked questions on the IMBB. This is NOT meant to be an all inclusive FAQ about the band in general....but is focused on questions that frequently get asked on THIS IMBB. If you want anything added, then please reply here. If I have seen it asked more than once on this BB, then I'll add it. Oh, and if you know the answer, please provide it, and save me a lot of time and effort. Right then, let's get on with it...
1) What is that backwards talking on the beginning of Still Life?/What is said at the END of Still Life?
A: The beginning says, "Fffwhat Ho!...said da ting wit da tree bonce. Don' meddle wit tings you don' undahstand.". Which basically translates into "What Ho!...said the monster with the three heads. Don't meddle with things you don't understand.". This is spoken by Nicko, in a Rastafarian accent. The ending says, "Yeah! That was fucking great!". The jury is out on who said the part at the end. Some say Steve...some Bruce. Personally, I think it was Martin Birch, through the intercom.
2) Why is Adrian called "H"?
A: Truth is, no one here has ever been able to agree on this one. Many people think that if you abbreviate Adrian's name, it sounds like a soft version of "Age", which can reasonably be sounded out as the letter "H". Others claim this is a bunch of bull. You decide your yourself.
3) Who does the spoken intro to the song The Number Of The Beast?
A: Although many people will claim that it is Vincent Price...it's not. He was the buddy of someone that Martin Birch knew. Unfortunately, no one seems to know or remember his name.
4) What happened to Nicko's nose?
A: To quote Nicko himself, "It got broken, that's what happened to it! On a couple of occasions too. It was first broken at school when i was 14, when funnily enough I had a fight with my best mate. I did have it fixed, and had an operation on my nose when i was 21, they took a bit of hip bone out of my hip and put it in my nose. I have a hip-nose! Then unfortunately my friend's girlfriend decided to attack me once, with my back turned and she cracked me one right down on top of my nose. It's had an unlucky run for sure, but I was a bit pissed off by that last break."
5) Was this (Dance Of Death) Maiden's last album?/Are Maiden going to tour again?
A: Iron Maiden should be putting out a new album in sometime in 2005. They are no longer doing extensive tours mostly festival type of touring from now on, with some arena touring where necessary.
6) What is the rarest Iron Maiden item?
A: Most will agree that it is the Twilight Zone brown vinyl. This is a mispress, the single was released on red vinyl and white vinyl, when the vinyl was changed from one colour to the other the pressing machine wasn't cleaned properly, hence a rumoured six copies came out in a kind of brown colour. this went for over twelve hundred pound sterling recently on Ebay.
7) Why did Dennis/Paul/Clive/Adrian/Bruce/Blaze leave the band?
DISCLAIMER: These are all the most widely accepted reasons, but by no means are they all indisputable.
A1: Dennis - He was spending a lot more time with the road crew, than with the band. He was also listening to a lot of different types of music, such as The Eagles. The band felt that he wasn't 100% into it, and worried about his musical influence on the band, given his differing musical tastes.
A2: Paul/Clive - Both drank to excess, and it got in the way of their performances on numerous occasions. Clive would sometimes even have a metal bucket next to his kit, for puking in.
A3: Adrian - He wasn't really please with the back-to-basics approach that Steve wanted to take with the NPFTD album, and he wasn't really sure that he was 100% into it. Steve talked with him about it, and gently nudged him in the direction he was already leaning towards
A4: Bruce - He was bored. He wanted to try other ventures. He may have believed that they'd gone as far as they could go, at the time.
A5: Blaze - Little is known, since Maiden and Blaze are very tight lipped about this. Both sides claim it was an amicable split and say they still talk to each other. Many people believe that the road was taking it's toll on Blaze's voice. Given his success in his solo career since, this is arguable.
8) What is that little symbol with the circles and arrow pointing down, on almost all Maiden albums?
A: This is the "signature" of Derek Riggs. You can find this mark on all Maiden albums which he designed, with the exception of Brave New World (which he did not fully design), and No Prayer For The Dying.
9) Who is singing lead vocals on the b-side song "Reach Out"?
A: Adrian Smith.
10) How do I change my avatar/signature?
A: Click on the "User CP" link near the top left, and then look at the links on the left side of your control panel. You will see options for changing just about anything you want.
11) What was Maiden's first recording, and how many did they make of it?
A: It was a vinyl called "The Soundhouse Tapes", and they only pressed 5000 of them.
12) How can I tell if my version of "The Soundhouse Tapes" is an original, or a bootleg?
A: Check out these sites for VERY detailed descriptions of the original and/or bootlegs...(please let me know if you ever find these links to be broken)...

13) Does Nicko use a double kick bass drum pedal?
A: As of the DOD album, he has only used a double kick bass drum pedal, on one song. The song is "Face In The Sand" on the DOD album.
14) Is Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son a concept album?
A: According to the band, it is a loose concept album. They did not originally set out to write a concept album, but as they wrote the album, many of the songs ended up being about the title character.
15) What is said at the end of the song "The Thin Line Between Love And Hate" from the BNW album?
A: It is Nicko saying "Aaawwwwww....I ffffucking mmmissed it!". He thought he had missed a cymbal at the end of the song (which he hadn't).
16) Are the songs "Hooks In You" and, "From Here To Eternity" part of the Charlot The Harlot series?
A: You'll find two bitterly divided camps on this one. No one seems to agree, and I'd venture to say that none of us here has proof that either side is right. However, the line "I've got the keys to view on number 22", does give some weight to the argument that at least "Hooks In You" is part of the series, especially given the theme of the song. If anyone can find me an article to prove one way or the other, please PM me.
17) How do you all get so lucky to meet the band/get backstage passes?
A: There are dozens of answers to this question. Some know people, some get lucky and bump into them at airports/hotels/bars, some win passes, and some can't or wont say how they got their passes backstage.
18) What was the "Mission From 'Arry" b-side from 2MTM all about, and what are they all saying?

19) What is the origin of Eddie?
A: Back in the day there was a joke going around about a guy who was just a head. His name was Eddie. It was his birthday and his parents said "We have something we know you'll really like, for your birthday, Eddie.", to which Eddie replied, "Oh no...not another fucking hat!". Ok...the joke sucks...agreed. At the time, Maiden had a big head mask that they would hang above the drums, which would pump out blood (red paint) through a tube in it's mouth. It get all over the drummer's hair. They nicknamed the mask "Eddie the 'ead", and therefore was born our infamous Eddie.
20) Can I play with matches?
A: No. It's not only unsafe, but it's also been done to death on this BB.
21) Is Bruce really singing 666 in the song "Back In The Village"?
A: This is referring to the line "I see sixes all the way", in which his voice echos the number 6 two times after he says it. So technically Bruce did not actually sing "666", but it was an echo effect in the studio. Still, it is pretty obvious that it was an intentional studio effect, as it appears to be the only word in the entire song, that this effect was applied to.
22) Where does the intro to the song "The Prisoner" from the TNOTB album come from?
A: It comes from an old British show that shares the name of the song, upon which the song was based. The song "Back In The Village" from the Powerslave album, is also based on the TV series "The Prisoner".
23) What's up with the song "The Number Of The Beast"? Are Maiden satanists?
A: According to Steve Harris, it was based mostly on a dream he had...plain and simple. No, Maiden are not satanists any more than a person who makes a movie about the devil, would be. In fact, Nicko is a Christian.
24) Where can a find a list of Maiden's TV appearances/mentions, a list of all line-ups, and a list of their birthdays?
