SYNOPSIS

At night, Maximilien takes a walk in the dark and foggy streets. He gets beaten by two weird guys who beat him black and blue. Two other guys with weapons intervene. Then begins a long night of violence...

REVIEW

Thierry Lopez, a young French director who get already noticed thanks to his short movie "GOLZARATH : THE ATTACK OF THE LIVING DEAD", comes back now with a new short "MAXIMILIANI ULTIMA NOX" which may well mark the beginning of a great career.
The previous one were shot in 8mm, whereas this last opus by Thierry is shot in 16mm, and the least that can be said is that the director knows how to use it!
Entirely shot in black and white for a gruesome and sticky aspect, "MAXIMILIANI ULTIMA NOX" is a flood of violence (with its rude and vulgar language), of action, of humour and gore, skilfully accompanied with sometimes aggressive music (signed by the black metal band Hegemon), or with classical music, which stresses the unhealthy side of the movie. Here, no period of inactivity, action starts at once. We don't know neither who the protagonists are, or why they're here, but one thing's for sure, we don't get bored during a minute of the 18 of the movie!
In addition to a perfect directing and of a very beautiful black and white photography, the quality of the movie is sustained by the performance of the actors, who act in a very professional way!

We can really feel that Thierry took pleasure into making "MAXIMILIANI ULTIMA NOX", witnessing all the references that can be found in a bit less than a twenty-minute-movie, going from Fulci (with two beheading scenes like we all like them) or gunfight vampire movies (like "FROM DUSK TILL DAWN" or John Carpenter's "VAMPIRES") and even a wink to Spanish director Alex de la Iglesia (for the name or José Maria).

Let's note also very beautiful ending credits, with the use of drawing for the cast.

To sum up, this short movie is very successful and we're really looking forward to the next one (or maybe a long running movie?)!!
