REVIEW

"WILLIAM WINCKLER'S FRANKENSTEIN VS. THE CREATURE FROM BLOOD COVE"... AReading this awfully long title, one can only wonder: Who is this William Winckler who proudly brands this film as though he himself belonged to that very limited breed of directors such as John Carpenter or even Roger Corman.
The answer is quite simple, so far he is just another eager rooster in the den of Z movie directors and he probably added his name to the title because he also wrote and produced this movie. Quite ballsy... For "FRANKENSTEIN VS. THE CREATURE FROM BLOOD COVE" is only his second film, released four years after "THE DOUBLE-D AVENGER", a film that recycled some of Russ Meyer's famed Bimbos.

As you might all have guessed, this latest opus, fully in Black and White is homage to movies of the fifties, and is filled up to the brink with references.
First off the creature is a dead ringer for Jack Arnold's "LA CREATURE DU LAGON NOIR" (of which a remake is about to be launched) , there are also numerous hats off to Universal, Frankenstein for one, who doesn't look anything like Boris Karloff, or the werewolf, who rather looks like the Hispanic Paul Naschy than Lon Chaney Jr... In fact the whole production is very similar to "VAN HELSING", that is without the budget or special effects, but perhaps nevertheless more sincere...

Anyway, despite the obvious homage aspect, you kind of wonder what the point of this movie is...
Even though, without any real means, the director manages to offer us some pretty imagery, some of the acting, the all too much conventional script and the general tone of it (mixing serious moments with campy humor) leaves the viewer with the impression that ."FRANKENSTEIN VS. THE CREATURE FROM BLOOD COVE" lost its initial goal.

An homage piece made with conviction by a team who obviously enjoyed their work.
However, even the cameos of Raven De La Croix, Ron Jeremy (Porn Star) or even the Tromatic Lloyd Kaufman (who seems to be in everything these days), don't manage to awaken the audience dozing off in front of endless fight scenes.
