Men from the future come to Japan to warn the world about the menace represented by Godzilla. They propose to erase this last by going back in time.

REVIEW

Kazuki Omori signs here the direction of his second long-running movie staging Godzilla, after "GODZILLA VS BIOLLANTE" in 1989. "GODZILLA VS KING GHIDORAH" also marks the come – back of compositor Akira Ifukube, who hadn't work on such a soundtrack since 1975, with Ishirô Honda's "THE TERROR OF GODZILLA" ("MEKAGOJIRA NO GYAKUSHU").

From the very beginning, the scenario presents disconcerting similarities with movies put out several months before in the United States...yeah, remember...a man going back in time to change history... yes, "GODZILLA VS KING GHIDORAH" has a number of similarities with "TERMINATOR 2", especially the android character remembering the physiognomy of Robert Patrick.
However, contrary to James Cameron's movie, Kazuki Omori shows clumsiness in his interpretation of time travel, so we get a bit lost : the story begins in 2204, to go back in the 90's (present time in the movie), the going back in time once again to 1944, in the midst of the Second World War, and so on...

In spite of these time confusions, in "GODZILLA VS KING GHIDORAH", the viewer finds out at last about the origins of these two monsters, the major interest of the movie. So, we se the birth (or rather the mutation) of Godzilla, but also the one of King Ghidorah, and its transformation (later in the movie) in its robot version, just like Mechagodzilla...

However, the primary pro – nationalism of this sequel is quite disappointing. Indeed, the whole movie long, dialogue scene sounding like from a Nipponese Roland Emmerich ("INDEPENDENCE DAY", "GODZILLA" – funny, isn't it ??, "THE PATRIOT")... So, Japan is presented like THE super economic power of the future, also honoured during the Second World War, thanks to its courageous commandant...
