.: STORY
Panic took the whole country over. On a television set, a government representative makes a sum up about the fight against the living dead who invaded even the smallest towns. However, four survivors succeed in escaping by helicopter, and end up landing nearby a shopping centre where they decide to settle.
Everyday life organises itself, punctuated by raids against the living deads...
.: REVIEW
Even though zombie movies are back in vogue with movies like "RESIDENT EVIL", "UNDEAD" and "28 DAYS LATER" (even if it deals with contamintated people more than with living dead) and though "DAWN OF THE DEAD" (the remake) will be on French screens on June 30th, it is to remember that this genre really began to be successful with Romero's trilogy. After "NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD" which undeniably instore the basis of a new genre, and before the too much low rated "DAY OF THE DEAD", came out in 1978 George A. Romero's "ZOMBIE" (French title), also known as "DAWN OF THE DEAD", a title more appropriate for its place in the trilogy.

However, be careful, here it's about the european version, edited by Dario Argento! Because, actually, "DAWN OF THE DEAD"" was made in two distinct versions, one more rhythmated destined to the European market and the other, longer, edited by George A. Romero himself for the US market.
About this movie, what can we say except that it's a masterpiece?!

The story takes place directly after "THE NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD", so no need for introduction, we ,at once, enter in the action itself. The country is invaded by the living deads and the SWAT team won't save the situation! No idle time for the viewer, who finds himself immerged, from the first seconds of the movie,in a nightmarish, dark, anxious and apocalyptic mood, emphasized by the soundtrack composed by Goblin, that Dario Argento likes a lot.
As usual, through "DAWN OF THE DEAD", George A. Romero conveys a very strong socio-political message. Here the target is consumer society, the zombies coming back, by instinct, in a shopping center, place of their past habits and envies. And what if the zombies who wander with their half torn body in the supermarket, as the director shows on sceen, were only us, simple consumers?

However, politics and sociology excepted, "DAWN OF THE DEAD" is a real horror movie, alternating stressing, anxious scenes and more gore scenes, marvelously made by the master of make-up, Mr Tom Savini (who also have a part in the movie).

"DAWN OF THE DEAD" became a reference in its genre, and it's left to be seen if its remake in 2004 can compete...
