.: STORY
Until the unexpected and mysterious death of his beloved wife, architect Jonathan Rivers considered himself as a rational man who didn't believe in the theories about communication with the dead people. A stranger, Raymond Price, suddenly enters his life, saying he heard the voice of his dead wife, Anna, by EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon). Drawn by curiosity and despair, Jonathan finds himself quickly destabilized by Raymond's affirmations, confirmed by the recordings of Anna's voice as well as by the testimony of Sarah Tate, also using this means to communicate with her dead friend.
.: REVIEW
Geoffrey Sax, who already directed several films for television, signs here his first movie for the big screen, "WHITE NOISE", on the theme of EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon), a real and very disturbing phenomenon, and thought not very exploited in cinema.
If some movies like "RING" evoke the idea briefly, the scenario of "WHITE NOISE" gets of the tricky situation focusing entirely on the subject, while trend is remakes and adaptations...

Even though the director begins in cinema, he's surrounded by well-known people who know their job, amongst who the too rare to find Michael Keaton ("BEETLEJUICE", "BATMAN", "BATMAN RETURNS", "MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING", "JACKIE BROWN", "JACK FROST" the comedy), Chandra West ("NIGHT TERRORS", "UNIVERSAL SOLDIER THE RETURN", "UNIVERSAL SOLDIER 3" and the TV series "NYPD BLUE"), Deborah Kara Unger ("HIGHLANDER III: THE SORCERER", "CRASH", "HURRICANE CARTER") and Ian McNeice ("ABSOLOM 2022", "THE GHOST OF CANTERVILLE", the TV series "DUNE", "FROM HELL", "BRIDGET JONES : THE EDGE OF REASON").

"WHITE NOISE" deals with the story of Jonathan (interpreted by a fantastic and very convincing Michael Keaton), who, enthusiastic about his meeting with Raymond, gets quickly into EVP and tries to help other people himself using his new knowledge.

After a "RING" like introduction, all let you think that you'll watch one of the numerous movies inspired by "THE SIXTH SENSE". However, "WHITE NOISE" takes another direction fast, getting closer and closer to anguishing thriller. The plot, very neat, keeps the audience hold their breath all the movie long, playing with very dark and heavy atmospheres, and makes you startle whenever there's an apparition.
And you'll jump on your seat, as the director, even though using simple techniques very often exploited, knew how make his movie exciting, even with the most foreseeable scenes!
Tension rises crescendo as the movie goes by, grows darker and darker, portraying a man full of hope, who might turn into a TV and recorder addict, looking for any message. Powerless facing the events, Jonathan gets into a trap from which he might not be able to get out...

A dark and terrifying movie, based on real and fascinating phenomenon, but wasted by a much debatable ending, on the edge of ridiculous, which is really a pity...
