Jiney is a student in photography. One day, she's the witness of a car accident, which makes victims, and she takes pictures of the scene. She feels such a satisfaction that she becomes obsessed with shooting death....: REVIEW

The Pang brothers who notably did "THE EYE", "THE EYE 2", or "BANGKOK HAUNTED" recur with this "AB-NORMAL BEAUTY", but this time only Oxide Pang is in charge of direction, Danny only taking care of production with his brother.)
The first part of the movie deals with the story of a young photographer who discovers her unhealthy fascination about death. While she's the witness of the death of a woman in a car accident, Jiney feels overwhelmingly attracted by the picture of that moment that she immortalises with a series of pictures. The excitement that she feels pushes her to always want more. So, she goes on shooting more and more gruesome scenes, that she ends up staging herself, all that watched by her worried friend Jas and by her rejected lover, Anson.Always in a genre close to fantastic, the movie slide slowly in horrific thriller, when in the second part, Jiney becomes the target of a mysterious psycho fond of snuff movies.

What can be said about "AB-NORMAL BEAUTY"... Shortly: here's a movie that put preference more on the form than on the facts! Indeed, we can't reproach Oxide Pang to bring a particular care to images, and visually speaking, the settings, the colours and the takes are quite beautiful, even giving a flashy music video side, which, unfortunately, only tries to hide the imperfections of a scenario more than limping. Disjoined and badly structured, this last mix with unease bloody sequences with traumatising childhood memories of Jiney, surfacing back with this urge towards the gruesome. Some track could have been better exploited instead of changing theme completely with this unnecessary snuff movie story.The Wong sisters (of the duo 2R), more at ease in their real job as pop singers, play terribly wrong their respective parts, Race in particular, not really believable in her macabre research.

Finally, even if the Pang clan never really excelled in direction, we were used to better from them. Those who were waiting for a choc movie will be disappointed. Instead of that, "AB-NORMAL BEAUTY" is full of pretensions, and is empty and tasteless. What a disappointment! Lan's rating : 4 on 10
