.: REVIEW
The third long-running movie by the director of "INNER SENSES" and the writer of "VIVA EROTICA", "KOMA" is once again into horrific thriller. As a writer, we can find Susan Chan who already took part in well-known movies such as "A MOMENT OF ROMANCE II", "TOKYO RAIDERS" or "SILVER HAWK"... In the cast point of view, the two main characters are interpreted by two faces more or less known in the Hong-Kong cinema, being Angelica Lee, already noticed in the very media acclaimed "THE EYE", and Karena Lam, who already had a part in "INNER SENSES" by the same director, and more recently, had one of the main part in "HEROIC DUO" along with Ekin Cheung and Leon Lai.

The story begins with Ling's arrest, suspected of an organ trading for having been seen by Ching on the scene of a kidney stealing... The police investigation would be put aside little by little for a more intimate plot putting into place a love triangle... Then begin a intriguing crisscrossing between the two women which everything put into an opposition; on one hand the one being Wai's girlfriend, on the other hand the one being Wai's lover, who would at time become complete enemies and co-friend. Slightly like a HK version of "FATAL ATTRACTION", this unhealthy situation could only end dramatically...

If the plot, totally missing of originality, could have been better harnessed by the director, what saves the movie is without a doubt the Angelica Lee / Karena Lam duo, in spite of little clumsiness in the two characters' psychology, put so much at the front and so little enriched... Let's also note the omnipresence of the hospital and medical environment: the kidney disease that handicap Ching, Wai's being a doctor, Ling's job in an immune research centre, and the hopeless hospitalisation of her mother... without forgetting about the stealing of the kidney with a scalpel! So many elements that could have given more opportunities to make the movie even more glaucous and spooky, but, frankly, they're not developed the good way.

That's a pity as "KOMA" isn't fundamentally bad at all, but it's hard to get into it. Some bloody scenes and an original soundtrack won't unfortunately be enough to cover this quite light scenario... Let's note, however, amongst the striking sequences, a wink to Stanley Kubrick's "THE SHINING", and also an impressive scene of a bump between a car and a truck! Without forgetting about the grand finale... big surprise!
