Heroic Duo

Used to big budget movies, Benny Chan recur, after directing the very media acclaimed (and sometimes much debated) "MOMENT OF ROMANCE" part 1 and 2, the "GEN X COPS" series, "WHO I AM", "THE BIG BULLET" and more recently "THE NEW POLICE STORY".
For "HEROIC DUO", he gathers in the cast three big stars of the HK cinema with amazing filmographies, Francis Ng ("THE BRIDE WITH WHITE HAIR", "EVIL CULT", "INFERNAL AFFAIRS II", "FULL ALERT"...), who already worked with Benny Chan on "THE BIG BULLET" and "GEN-X COPS", Leon Lai ("CITY HUNTER", "FALLEN ANGELS", "GOD OF GAMBLERS 3", "A HERO NEVER DIES"...) and the rising star Ekin Cheng ("THE STORMRIDERS", "A MAN CALLED HERO", "LEGEND OF ZU", "THE TWINS EFFECT"...), for an action cocktail very (too much?) influenced by the American blockbusters.

As far as scenario is concerned, nothing very exceptional...
While investigating on the stealing case, Ken Li (Ekin Cheng), a cop without problems and with a strong character, will have to face a manipulative gangster (Francis Ng) who uses moral less method to get his things done... Supported by Jack Lai (Leon Lai), a master in hypnosis matters, Ken would lead his own investigation to catch this as vicious as cruel adversary, in spite of the conflicts with the other cops and his chaotic relationship with his girlfriend, Brenda, interpreted by beautiful Karena Lam ("INNER SENSES", "KOMA"...). Distance complicity will progressively emerge between the two heroes, victims of the same man, consumed with loneliness. This adventure will also be the occasion for Ken to put his relationship with Brenda into question...
Seen and seen again! Fortunately, the story is made more complex with the intervention of hypnosis as the driving idea of the plot. However, this is apparently just a pretext to legitimate one of the numerous police action movies without great interest, which only goal is entertainment.

And the entertainment is here made! Between stunts, gunfight, track races and explosions, Benny Chan has however integrated choreographed fights, which are hardly noticed... Without going as far as qualifying them of spectacularly, the most impressive scenes are without a doubt the ones shot on the roofs, above all when you know that, traditionally, in Hong Kong cinema, the actors do their stunts themselves!

So this "HEROIC DUO" is very much of occidental and will for sure please all the action cinema fans, and that's precisely what it's asked to!
