.: STORY
A morning apparently like all the others...Charles wakes up. But, looking in the mirror as usual, he notices that his image is strange. Nobody seems to see him, not even his own wife...Nobody excepted a mysterious cat horde...and someone called Carol, who tells him the inconceivable : actually, Charles is dead but his spirit still roams on Earth... He finds out that the mission of this Dark Hunter, appointed by God, is to save the roaming spirits from the evil forces. Then, a battle between Good and Evil begins...
.: REVIEW
Johannes Roberts and Dominique Pinon ("DELICATESSEN", "ALIEN RESURRECTION", "LE FABULEUX DESTION D'AMELIE POULAIN"), after working together on "HELLBREEDER", team again for "DARKHUNTERS".
This one is based on a quite simple and manichean story : Good Vs Evil, the Angel ( Carol) Vs the Demon (The Dark Reaper) who battle for a mortal soul.
Since the beginning of the movie, Johannes Roberts put the viewers into a quite dark atmosphere exploiting everybody's fear, death. But here, the process isn't over and Charles (Dominique Pinon) is still on Earth between life and death.
This idea, without being original, is well exploited, supported by wonderful special effects which make of "DARKHUNTERS" a visually successful movie. Some long passages can be noticed with endless dialog sequences which impose a quite slow rhythm to the whole movie. A rhythm which, however, brings a heavy and clumsy dimension reminding by moment the unreal atmosphere of "THE OTHERS" or "DARK WATER", sustained by Dominique Pinon and Jeff Fahey ("LAWNMOWER MAN, THE") who are particularily persuasive in their roles, and a music perfectly matching with the spirit of the movie.

A dark and beautiful movie, but sadly a bit too slow, from a script that could have been written by Stephen King.
