.: STORY
After surviving the eclipse in "PITCH BLACK", Riddick and his friends (Himam and Jack) are caught by a princess who collects the human trophies and who wants our hero as a masterpiece. But the three survivors of the previous movies won't let her do and will fight to get out of this trap..: REVIEW
Just like "MATRIX" and its "ANIMATRIX", "DARK FURY" is a kind of animated add-on to "PITCH BLACK" which allows to make a link between the first movie and "THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK", its sequel. The richness of the Wachowski brothers' trilogy made the animated shorts worth of interest whereas it doesn't seem to be the case for "PITCH BLACK".
However, if you do something, you do something great, and so well-known Peter Chung – who also did "ANIMATRIX", "AEON FLUX" or even "MATRICULATED" – was asked to do it.
Just like all his other works, he realizes here something very beautiful visually speaking, be it about the settings, the monsters or the characters. The one of Riddick is very well transcribed as even Vin Diesel gives it his voice! And about the soundtrack, let's notice the participation of the metal band Machine Head!
If the aestheticism is there for sure, the scenario happens to be quite empty, at most nothingness.Indeed, if the "ANIMATRIX" added something to the story, and even though "DARK FURY" propose us some great fighting scenes, it does nothing more. Here, the heroes go back as they came, which add nothing to the plot except for the Toombs introduction, a body hunter that can be seen in "THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK". Let me tell you that this animated short movie isn't totally convincing, except for the fans of this universe for sure limited. The anime lover will, however, like this short movie but without making a cult item of it.
