.: REVIEW
Eli Roth, David Lynch's protégé for whom he did several short-movies for the site DavidLynch.com, produces here his first long-running movie called "CABIN FEVER", a movie shot in 24 days in Camp Raven Knob, a boy-scout camp in North Carolina.
Inspired by a misadventure that happened to him when he was 19, the director and script-writer of the movie plays with his personal fear of diseases and with the reaction that we may have when confronted to it.
About the casting, we can find Rider Strong, star of the series on ABC "BOY MEETS WORLD", Cerina Vincent (the foreign student in "SEX ACADEMY", Maya, the yellow force in the series the "POWER RANGERS" and who performs in several series like "ALLY MCBEAL" or "FELICITY"), James Debello ("DETROIT ROCK CITY", "SCARY MOVIE 2"), Jordan Ladd ("HIGH SCHOOL ATTITUDE", "CLUB DREAD"..) and Joey Kern ("SUPER TROOPERS", "GRIND"...).

Based on a very basic scenario, "CABIN FEVER" wants itself to be like an 80's horror movie, so, we can notice some winks to "EVIL DEAD" (the cabin, the girl apart from the others and locked), "THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT" (music) without quoting the last scenes of the movies which looks like taken from "NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD".
But in this movie, Eli Roth insists above all on "the destruction of the friendship bounds, using body like a metaphor of this damage". Each person reacts in a different way when in contact with the ill person and that ultimately end up with arguments which will turn, all the movie long, into anger and even hatred between people however so close. The illness in "CABIN FEVER" makes everyone fucked up and we up ourselves very easily in the characters' place wondering what we would do if we were them.
Humour also has a great space in "CABIN FEVER". The director says himself : "I tried to make a movie which would take its roots in the great period for horror, late 70's – early 80's. A franc and direct horror movie, which uses humour to relieve the tension and get people into the movie". Unfortunately, if some relieves are effective, but some of them are harassing even though it stays pleasant to watch ( the autistic guy who is a Kung Fu fan has nothing to do there but what a laugh!!!).

Moreover, the movie is pleasantly brought with Angelo Badalamenti's music, with David Hess's ( who composed the music for "THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT") and with Noah's Rock Stars (band with Bo and Jesse Hess, David Hess's children).
The make-ups aren't indebted as we can watch very good gory scenes like we love them, and supervised by one of the references in the genre: the K.N.B. EFX Group studios ("EVIL DEAD 2", "ARMY OF DARKNESS", "FROM DUSK TILL DAWN", "13 GHOSTS", "RESERVOIR DOGS" or "KILL BILL"....).

So, "CABIN FEVER" is a very good B-movie which makes its way out of the sterilized Teen Slasher Movies but, unfortunately, with an imperfect rhythm.
