.: STORY
The story of a music band who is going to record their new album in a boarding school closed in the 30's for unknown reasons and lost in the woods..: REVIEW
Here's an independant movie which received quite many prizes. it's the winner of the New York Independant International Film Festival and of the Calgary International Horror Film Festival and was selected many times in numerous festivals around the world. Impressive!!"13 SECONDS" deals with the story of a music band who is going to record their new album in a boarding school closed in the 30's for unknown reasons and lost in the woods.
The movie starts really well with a very dark nightmarish vision : a creature which looks as if it came from "DEMONS" attacks the main character, Davis, in a scene which melts "POLTERGEIST" and "HELLRAISER". at that moment, on the door, in blood letters, we discover a sentence which will be seen back and forth in the movie : "Tell me to stop the pain".
Another main feature of this movie is the impression of inavoidable fate symbolized by the paintings in a gallery wich paint themselves while the movie is going on and announce the coming death of the different characters. The heroe sees his friends dying one by one without his being able to act.
The "creatures" who haunt this school re really beautiful. Most of them wear a leather S&M mask and a strait jacket.
The special effects are well done and likely. It's all about a blood deluge on the victims as well as in the school itself which seems alive.
One of the scariest moment of the movie takes place when the survivors use spiritism (really realistic) to ask the ghost which haunt the school to tell why it kills the people there. Very impressive!!
The general mood of "13 SECONDS" is very dark, first, because of the story and also because the entire story happen at night. Moreover, it explores many fears concerning death and the fact of the spirit trapped in a place after the death of the body.
We learn that the spirit is the one of a child who died there because he was sacrificed to a god and awefully mutilated.
The conclusion of the movie is unexpected and very interesting. It puts into question the whole movie but explains the title.
This movie is absolutely excellent and captivates the viewers all the film long.
Purgatory's rating : 8 on 10

DO NOT RENT THIS MOVIE ... NOT EVEN IF IT'S A FREE RENTAL !!!
I WOULD RATHER WATCH A MOVIE ABOUT CRAFT PROJECTS USING PLASTIC CANVAS !!!!
This movie SUCKED !!! The premise was good and yes, first 5 minutes were good but the sound editing and the acting was HORRIBLE!!! At some points the vocal track doesn't even match up with the lips... I wondered if I was watching an old Gozilla movie but then realized none of the actors were asian. Talia, one of the female leads, can't act and doesn't seem to realize that some fluctuation in vocal tone is necessary to convey emotion. The ending SUCKED and I felt like I was watching someone's SOPHMORE MOVIE PROJECT for extra credit due to failing grades. I don't know how this movie won any awards and I shutter to think what the competition was like. I don't know what drugs "Kainre" (see above) is on but I DONT WANT ANY!!!! I would rather watch 8 seconds with Luke Perry than watch this technicolor yawn again. It is the worst movie I ever saw and I saw Xanadu.
The only reason I'm giving it any points at all is for the first 5 minutes and the makeup and blood. The blood actually looked realistic in some scenes. I gave it a 1.0 out of 10 but then remembered the scene where they are axe murdering a body which appeared to be filled with down or straw.... totally unrealistic and slightly comical in it's elementary appearance.
