On October 29th, the highly-anticipated new exploitation movie tribute book SHOCK FESTIVAL will be available in all its full color gory glory!
It's 356 pages of movie madness featuring an epic story behind-the scenes on bizarre grindhouse films that never existed and OVER SIX HUNDRED AMAZING ORIGINAL MOVIE POSTERS, LOBBY CARDS AND OTHER “RARE MEMORABILIA” ITEMS . . . but the book is just the beginning. In early 2009, Stephen Romano will present an unprecedented 3-disc DVD set, based on both the fictional films of his ground-breaking book, and the films that inspired them.
Loaded with hundreds of vintage theatrical 35mm trailers and 16mm television spots from the most amazing B-exploitation flicks of all time, the DVD set will be the wildest, most comprehensive preview retrospective in home video history, with original drive in snack bar promos, intermission ads and theater promos---all DIGITALLY REMASTERED FROM RARE ORIGINAL FILM ELEMENTS. The DVD set will feature amazing special features and extras, such as an in-depth retrospective of Romano's book, and a series of exclusive, Never-before-seen ORIGINAL TRAILERS BASED ON THE FICTIONAL FILMS OF SHOCK FESTIVAL.
Yes, that's right, in addition to the real deal, we'll be trotting out some insane GRINDHOUSE-style “faux previews,” including "DARK NIGHT OF THE DEMONHOUSE" from acclaimed indie director Richard Griffin ("SPLATTER DISCO"), "SHARKHUNTERS" from Jason Eisner ("HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN"), and "EVOLVER" from Emmy-nominated animation director/comic artist DAVE HARTMAN ("SPIDER-MAN"/"THE DEVIL'S REJECTS"). Announcing the SHOCK FESTIVAL TRAILER contest: a unique opportunity for independent filmmakers to throw their hats in the ring! If you've got the time, the tools, and the talent, sign on with us to become a part of B-movie history! And, yeah, we hear you: “ANOTHER trailer contest!
Phooey! What makes THIS ONE so special, man!?” Well, the truth is, this is no ordinary trailer contest, folks. It's a challenge. When you enter, you will be assigned a faux film poster and a plot summary from the pages of SHOCK FESTIVAL. You will then have three weeks to create your masterpiece and submit it. No two entrants will be working on the same idea! And it's all up to YOU to make it your own! Bad taste, bad acting, great gore, anything goes! Final deadline for entry is OCTOBER 1st.
(That gives you just THREE AND A HALF WEEKS to sign up!) The top five entries will be featured on the disc set and shown publicly at the world-famous ALAMO DRAFHOUSE CINEMA at the world premiere opening of the book on October 21st. GRAND PRIZE WINNER will also receive a package of 100 AWESOME EXPLOITATION AND CULT DVDs including "WOMENS PRISON MASSACRE", "HITLER REINCARNATED AS CALIGULA" and "SLIME CITY". All trailers must be within 1-4 minutes in length.
